Corrosion protection:
Thickness of powder coating
The total thickness of the standard powder coating as an average value of 10 measurements and evenly distributed over the entire part shall be between 80 and 160 μm (or 260 μm in the case of a double powder coating) and shall not be less than 60 μm at any measurement point. The thickness should not exceed 160 μm (or 260 μm in the case of a dual powder coating). However, the total thickness of the coating cannot be used as a measure of corrosion protection. The corrosion protection of a coated part is composed of the pre-treatment (e.g. zinc phosphorisation), the type of powder (e.g. mixed powder), the coating (one or two layers), the material (bright steel/galvanised) and the correct execution of the powder coating (cleaning/degreasing of the part).
Powder coating properties
The standard ZIEHL-ABEGG powder coating uses a mixture of polyester powder and epoxy. Due to the polyester component in the powder mixture, a medium UV resistance is achieved. As a rule, the functional surfaces of all parts with threads, nuts and bolts or pre-defined functional surfaces are not coated in order to ensure the proper functioning of the thread or the application (e.g. grounding of the part).
